The first phase of skill development programme for rubber plantation sector undertaken by the Rubber Board, India, in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) has been is completed.
As part of this, 9,702 people were trained in two job roles, namely Latex Harvest Technician (tapper) and Latex Processing Technician. Procedures for certifying these trainees have also been completed.
The Board will take the initiative to enrol these certified persons in the tapper banks being formed under the local Rubber Producers’ Societies.
Mass contact programme: The annual mass contact programme of the Rubber Board for this year is being held April 17 to May 26, 2017. The theme for this year is “Total Plantation Excellence.”
Cultural practices such as weekly tapping, controlled upward tapping, rain guarding, online fertilizer recommendation, scheme for intercropping to be implemented in collaboration with state agricultural department and rubber tapper skill development programme under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana(PMKVY) will be discussed in the meetings. Local impediments, if any, in adopting these practices will also be addressed. The Board expects to meet around 60,000 growers/tappers through campaign meetings.
