As a new initiative, ANRPC launched a five-day International Training in Rubber Market Research and Analysis (R-MART) exclusively for market research officials in its member governments. This will be a regular event to be conducted every year.
The first edition of R-MART was held in Kuala Lumpur from April 17 to 21, attended by 22 officials representing Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Dr. Suarni Sumormo, Deputy Director-General of the Malaysian Rubber Board, officiated the launching of the programme in a function chaired by Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich, Secretary-General of ANRPC.
The programme, structured into 10 sessions, covered topics such as commodity markets; tools to analyse trends, cycles and volatility; analysis and forecasting of supply and demand; influence of non-fundamentals; role of traders; and preparation of market research report. The programme also included a visit to the International Rubber Products Exhibition Centre (IRPEC Malaysia) at Sungai Buloh, Malaysia.
The faculty team included Dar Wong, Director, Dektos Investment Corporation, Singapore, ONG Teck Chye, Head of Agri Commodities Division, R1 International, Singapore and Jom Jacob, Senior Economist, ANRPC.
