Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai Sikh Temple and Chairman of Al Dobowi Group, was honoured with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2019, the highest recognition for a non-resident Indian.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman or the Overseas Indian Award is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Government of India to honour non-resident Indians with outstanding and commendable contributions in their respective fields or professions in India and abroad.
The Award was presented to Surender Singh Kandhari by the Hon’ble President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas or the Non-Resident Indian Day event, held in January 2019 at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
The Award was in acknowledgement of Kandhari’s outstanding achievement in the field of business and in recognition of his valuable contribution in promoting the honour and prestige of India and in fostering the interests of overseas Indians.
Kandhari established Al Dobowi Group based in Dubai, UAE, in 1976. The Group is in the business of manufacturing and global distribution of tyres and batteries for both automotive and industrial applications. He is also the founding Chairman of the world’s most modern and the Middle East’s largest Gurudwara, the Guru Nanak Darbar Dubai Sikh Temple.
