The International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers (IISRP) will honor one of its outstanding technical leaders Dr. Gary M. Marsh at its next Annual General Meeting (AGM). He will receive the prestigious Institute Technical Award. The Award will be presented during the 61st AGM of the IISRP in Bangkok, Thailand on May 12, 2020. Dr. Marsh is a leading researcher recognized globally in biostatistics, occupational/environmentalepidemiology, quantitative risk assessment, statistical computing, and health services evaluation.
“It is a great honor for IISRP and for me to present this award to a distinguished researcher who has collaborated extensively with the synthetic rubber industry with epidemiological studies that have contributed greatly to its continuation, improvement, and development, by knowing more about the materials used in its production processes,” said Juan Ramón Salinas, Managing Director and CEO of IISRP.
Gary M. Marsh, Ph.D., F.A.C.E. is Professor of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Clinical and Translational Science, and Director and Founder of the Center for Occupational Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health. He is also a Consulting Senior Science Advisor for Epidemiology at Cardno ChemRisk.
Dr. Marsh received his B.S. degree in Mathematics (cum laude) in 1973 from the University of Pittsburgh and his M.S.(Hyg.) and Ph.D. degrees in Biostatistics in 1974 and 1977 from the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH). Dr. Marsh is a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology (F.A.C.E.). Dr. Marsh has more than 300 publications in the areas of biostatistics, occupational/environmental epidemiology, quantitative risk assessment, statistical computing, and health services evaluation. He designs and directs occupational
epidemiologic studies to investigate the long-term health effects of exposure to such agents as asbestos, man-made mineral fibers, cosmetic talc, formaldehyde, acrylamide, acrylonitrile, arsenic, and chloroprene, tungsten carbide with cobalt binder (hard metal), petrochemicals, radon, ionizing radiation, aromatic amines and pharmaceuticals. Besides, he conducts environmental epidemiologic studies of communities exposed to industrial pollutants or hazardous waste site materials and is involved in basic methodological research related to longitudinal data analysis and quantitative risk assessment.
Dr. Marsh energetically conducted epidemiological studies of various chemicals and also made significant contributions to brush up the analysis method. And he conducted epidemiological studies of Chloroprene, one of the raw materials of synthetic rubbers, and gave an appropriate evaluation to Chloroprene.
